What is Traditional Marketing?

Traditional marketing is any type of marketing that is done offline to promote your products and services or to satisfy your audience’s needs and wants using offline channels like newspapers, billboards, TVs, radios, etc.

Before the advent of social media, the digitalization of everything, and the digitization of marketing itself, we have always been using traditional marketing and its channels to promote and sell our products and services.

Traditional marketing has been used for years and it has been a success. It still is now. But before social media, traditional marketing channels were very popular and almost everyone had access to them. Even today we still read newspapers, listen to the radio, watch TV, and look at billboards.

Some Traditional Marketing Channels

  • Newspaper: This is a paper that is printed regularly and contains current news, articles, advertisements, etc. Newspapers are printed in bulk usually daily, and it has a low cost of production. They can be used to advertise and promote your products or even inform your readers about your new releases.

  • TVs: The TV is a very popular traditional marketing channel as it offers both audio and visuals. The TV can be used for advertisements called commercials by creating and airing the commercials at a specific time on the channel every day. The TV is very attention-grabbing which is why TV commercials are remembered by people.

  • Billboards: These are giant posters displayed usually by the side of the road and they contain the message you want to send to your audience, whether you are promoting a product or even entertaining your audience. Billboards are attention=grabbing as they can be seen from afar due to their height and size.

What is Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing is the use of the internet, digital devices, and social media to promote your products, drive brand awareness, generate leads, etc. Unlike traditional marketing where you only push the products through the channels, digital marketing allows for communication between you and your customer.

Due to the digitalization of almost everything in this age, the internet now offers almost every kind of service. Because of the population of internet users and the convenience of using it for anything, businesses are now turning to digital marketing to expand their market and reach new audiences.

Digital marketing offers new avenues in marketing and lets brands express themselves and connect with their audience in ways they are not able to do with traditional marketing. Digital marketing is the trend now and it is always expanding due to the ever-increasing internet users and new businesses.

Examples of Digital Marketing Channels

  • Social Media: Social media is what websites and software platforms that allow different people to connect and communicate with each other are called. Social media platforms are used to create and post content that is consumed by the audience. They also allow the sharing of thoughts, ideas, and information between users. By using social media platforms to create and post content promoting your products, you will be able to reach a large audience. Some examples of social media platforms are Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Affiliate Marketing: this is when a business pays an affiliate to promote their products or services on the affiliate’s website, blog, or social media. This gives them access to their audience.

Differences Between Traditional And Digital Marketing

The difference between traditional and digital marketing is, In traditional marketing, the marketing is done offline using offline channels. While in digital marketing all marketing is carried out using digital devices and social media.

In traditional marketing, it is not easy to measure your marketing progress and performance. While in digital marketing, you can measure and analyze your progress to see your performance and then decide what to do next.

In traditional marketing, after you have posted your ads, you cannot change them and there is no going back. While in digital marketing you can make changes to your ads to upload or update new information.
